WE'RE NOT GIVING UP ON THE SUBSIDIES…THE FIGHT ISN'T OVER YET
To our freelance community —
On December 31, 2025, the Affordable Care Act enhanced subsidies expired. For millions who purchase their healthcare via the marketplace, premiums are increasing by an average of 114% — cutting off many freelancers from the care they desperately need.
However, there is still hope that the subsidies will be restored: Before the New Year, four Republicans broke ranks with their party and signed onto the Democratic House leadership’s discharge petition. This petition forces a vote for a three-year extension of the subsidies, to be held now that Congress is back in session.
Although it’s unclear exactly when this vote will happen, this is evidence that public pressure is working. With midterm elections around the corner in June, now is the time to make clear to elected officials that a further lapse in the subsidies — or passing a watered down version — will cost them their seats.
