New role, same mission: Rafael Espinal’s farewell letter

To our freelance community —

Our Executive Director Rafael Espinal may be leaving our organization to join the Mamdani administration, but his mission remains the same: Fighting for independent workers and creatives.

That’s exactly what Rafael did throughout his tenure at Freelancers Union, and even before that, as a New York State Assemblymember and New York City Councilor.

Read Rafael’s reflections on the past six years — as he steered us out of the pandemic and led the passage of Freelance Isn’t Free statewide in New York, California, and elsewhere — and his message for our members everywhere.

Stay tuned for more in the weeks to come for updates on the future of leadership at Freelancers Union.

In solidarity,

The Freelancers Union team

Peter Breitholtz

I operate a taxi and the business is called BLA Rides and it serves the Brainerd Lakes area and the rest of Minnesota. We transport clients throughout and we also deliver packages.
